What is a Giving Tree Gift Bag?
It is a gift bag that represents a child. Each bag will list the name, age, height, weight, and gender of a child in need.
What is a Donor?
A donor is someone that takes a Giving Tree bag (or bags) which includes the profile of a deserving child. The donor then shops specifically for the chosen child or children and can also get involved in delivering the bags to the recipient school usually in December or early January.
What is a Liaison?
A Liaison is the person responsible for organising their group of donors. This will include tracking the bags from the time they arrive at your organisation through the filling stage until the bags are delivered to the children. You will be the point of contact between Giving Tree volunteers and your donors.
Why do I return the bags in early December when Chinese New Year is usually in January or February?
Migrant Schools are off for their winter break usually 3 weeks prior to Chinese New Year. The children will usually have a week of tests at the end of the semester. During this time of course the schools will not want any activities to take the focus from their tests. As well, many of our donors are the International Schools who break for Christmas in mid/late December and many of the schools like to include their students in these ceremonies. It is very important to return your filled bag to the collection location provided by your Liaison on time.
Can I deliver the gifts I have bought to the children I have sponsored?
The Giving Tree and the recipient schools organise many gift presentation ceremonies that are open to the Public. Please see our website for exact dates, times and locations of the public ceremonies.
What items do people usually put in the bags?
Usually we suggest warm outer wear items as most helpful at this time of year. A coat, shoes/boots, pants, thermal underwear, hats, gloves, scarves, are some suggested items also school supplies and toys while not expected, are nice additions too. The items must all be new and we suggest whatever you decide to put in the bag to try to ensure the bag is full.
What if I want to continue sponsoring the same child?
Giving Tree will make an effort to make the contact for you.
